Question Answered: Is it worth replacing broken motor?

The motor in my paper shredder broke. Does it pay to try and fix it ?
i think it is over heated. Can i take it apart and fix it ? Or just junk it and buy a new one?

It really all depends on the make and model of the paper shredder and how much it would cost to replace. If you are dealing with a $20-$40 cheap-o model, you might as well as replace it. Most of the Chinese-made department store shredders have plastic gears and a week shredder head and aren't worth the time or money to fix.
As far as a replacement paper shredder goes, don't replace one cheap paper shredder with another cheap paper shredder or you'll end up in the same boat. I would stay away from the no-name brand shredders. Fellowes is decent, but I would highly recommend going with something from Intimus, Destroyit, Kobra or Dahle. Be sure you get a shredder that will handle everything you need to shred.
One of the biggest causes of ruined shredders is people that buy a 3-5 sheet shredder and try to jam 10 sheets through it. That will burn out a motor and strip gears faster than anything.
If you want to double check the motor, and see what it would cost to replace, you may call ABC Office's Service Department (800-658-8788 x129) and just ask what all would be involved.
